MUNCIE, Ind. \u2014 Muncie Resists and the League of Women Voters of Muncie-Delaware County will co-host a community education meeting on the development of data centers in Delaware County on Monday, June 29, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Muncie, 4800 W Bradford Drive, Muncie.<\/span><\/p>\n

The event is free and open to the public.<\/span>
<\/span><\/p>\n

The meeting will feature a presentation by Bryce Gustafson, an organizer from Citizens Action Coalition. The event will walk attendees through the facts on data centers: the economic promises developers and officials often make to communities, the environmental and infrastructure costs that frequently go unmentioned, and what is actually happening in the region.<\/span><\/p>\n

The presentation will be followed by a community Q&A and a discussion of next steps for local organizing.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of noise out there about data centers.\u201d said Mary Moore, president of Muncie Resists. \u201cBefore we can push back, we need to understand what we\u2019re dealing with. This meeting is about giving our community the information they need so they can make their voices heard and act.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Data center development has become a growing issue across Indiana and the broader Midwest, with proposals raising concerns about water use, energy consumption, tax incentives, and limited local job creation, Moore said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Muncie Resists and the League of Women Voters of Muncie-Delaware County are co-hosting this meeting to help Delaware County residents have access to factual, community-centered information before decisions are made. Muncie Resists is a 501(c)(4) community organizing group based in Muncie that works to build civic power and advocate for working people in Delaware County by championing democracy through community, education and advocacy.<\/span><\/p>\n

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan, grassroots organization working to protect and expand voting rights and ensure everyone is represented in the country\u2019s democracy.<\/span><\/p>\n

The League, since its founding in 1920, strives to empower voters and defend democracy through advocacy, education, and litigation at the local, state and national levels.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, the League never supports or opposes political parties or candidates. Instead, it takes positions on issues that affect voters. Positions might align with a party or a candidate at times but diverge at other times. The League\u2019s focus is always on policies and measures that serve the public interest \u2013 not party affiliation.<\/span><\/p>\n
