MUNCIE, Ind. \u2014<\/span> Delaware County Republican Party Chairman Tim Overton filed Thursday to run for Indiana House District 34. The news comes after Chris Walker, Principal of Muncie Central High School, became the third person to file for a frenzied race.\u00a0<\/span>The other two contenders include Richard Ivy,\u00a0<\/span>a former candidate for city council in 2019 and former deputy mayor, and Randall McCallister,\u00a0<\/span>a self-described “working-class conservative” with fifty followers on his campaign’s Facebook page<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Overton is a pastor at Kingston Avenue Baptist Church in Anderson, 5403 Kingston Ave,\u00a0<\/span>and serves on the Muncie Sanitary District Board.\u00a0<\/span>He became chair for his party last year on March 1, and made recent news in the <\/span>Post-Democrat<\/span><\/a> for his defense of public comment restrictions by city council-member Jeff Green. He views the restrictions, which included a stricter time limit and no tolerance for attitudes causing “dissension,” as well as a now-changed rule requiring speakers to give their home address, as needed to calm “disorder” he claims members of the audience have perpetrated.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Chris Walker has served as Principal of Muncie Central since 2016 and was recently given<\/span><\/a> an Excellence in Education Award by the Greater Muncie Chamber of Commerce. Walker holds master’s degrees from Ball State University and Butler University<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The seat since 2012 has been held by Democrat Sue Errington, who announced that she should would not be running for reelection<\/span> <\/a>and endorsed candidate Sara Gullion, a member of Muncie City Council. Gullion won the council seat in 2023 and notably authored a <\/span>resolution<\/span> <\/a>establishing the Opioid Settlement Advisory Committee.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
