MUNCIE, Ind. \u2014 Over four hundred protesters from across Delaware County lined Wheeling and McGalliard, the busiest intersection in Muncie. The protest held at all four points of the intersection, as part of a nationwide action called \u201cHands Off\u201d, where millions of Americans picketed against Trump and the billionaire class across 1,200 cities in the U.S. The demonstrators held signs criticizing the erosion of civil rights, capitalism, and cuts to social services like healthcare, education, and social security.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re on social security, we\u2019re worried about that.\u201d Said Glen Cluck, a Muncie resident. \u201cWe\u2019re worried about the crisis because of the stupid tariffs, and we\u2019re worried about the people getting scooped up off the streets without any due process.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Cluck, like most Americans, doesn’t buy the \u2018\u2018waste, fraud, and abuse\u201d narrative. He singled out Indiana Senator Jim Banks, after Banks doubled down on insulting a fired Department of Health and Human Services worker as a \u201cclown\u201d who \u201cprobably deserved it\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAll [the fired employee] was doing was trying to find out what the Senator was going to do to make sure that elderly people were going to be cared for now that people have been fired,\u201d Cluck said. \u201cHe needs to find that young man and apologize.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

\u201cThis is bad, bad stuff going on\u2026 Once [Trump] gets everything he wants, it’s gonna be much harder to undo it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>

Cooper Hall, a sophomore history major from Ball State, held a sign stating \u2018Trump is a symptom, Capitalism is the disease\u2019.<\/span><\/p>

\u201cThe only reason Trump is able to get in power is because we have this capitalist system that is solely based on profit,\u201d Hall said. \u201cYou have all these politicians with billionaires who line their pockets\u2014\u00a0 they only serve the interests of them instead of the actual masses of people.\u201d<\/span><\/p>

\u201cThey want to cut social security almost completely. The Elon Musk, the Jeff Bezos, they don’t need social security,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>

Hall chastised Ball State and other universities for not standing up for the values they claim to hold.<\/span><\/p>

\u201cThe universities are supposed to be the bastions of free speech. They tout themselves as progressive institutions that drive society forward through their education, but when it comes to actually using their power to take a stand, they never do anything,\u201d Hall said. They actually operate more like businesses, and at the whims of whatever the rulers say.”<\/span><\/p><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
