MUNCIE, Ind. — In an upcoming resolution for Muncie City Council, filed on Tuesday, February 17th, the City of Muncie is looking to run a municipal drone base that will be housed in the Delaware County Building, 100 W. Main St.
If passed, Resolution 4-26 would put Muncie into a five-year agreement. Exact details of the interlocal agreement, including location within the building and other specifics, are not yet determined. Delaware County would have “no financial obligation” and Muncie would be responsible for all costs as well as future legal liabilities. Delaware County according to the agreement “shall retain the right to review and approve all proposed mounting designs.”

The news also comes after Muncie’s Board of Public Works and Safety signed a deal putting Muncie into the early stages of finding a new headquarters for the Muncie Police Department. $40,000 in EDIT (Economic Development Income Tax) funds will be used to pay expenses to the Indianapolis consultant group Veridus Advisors.
An upcoming “State of Our Community” event on March 5, in years prior referred to as a “State of the City” event, is a joint effort between Muncie Mayor Dan Ridenour and County Commissioners Stephen Brand, Sherry Riggin, and Shannon Henry, and teases more collaborations with Delaware County.
At the same meeting March 2, Muncie City Council will be voting on Ordinance 6-26, an ordinance based on a previous filed ordinance that was voted down at the February meeting.
