MUNCIE, Ind. — At the second “Mark Meet-Up” hosted at the Room 5 Piano Bar Saturday evening, 2150 W White River Blvd, yet another update was made about the new iteration of the Mark III Tap Room. The official new location will be 1101 S. Walnut St, and while there isn’t a tentative timeline for an opening date, it will open by the end of 2025. The location will be its first since a pipe burst occurred at its last location, 306 Walnut St, in the beginning of 2024. Being passed the torch as its new owners are Tracy Letzler and Ryder Martz.

The audience consisted of roughly 100 to 130 people, with a drag show featuring performers from Muncie, Fort Wayne, and Indianapolis, in addition to the announcement for the new location. Tracy Letzler described it as a “great turnout” and told the Post-Democrat that many individuals there had frequented the 306 Walnut location, and even the earlier 107 E. Main Street location before.

At their last event held on June 7th, details were discussed about it being space for more than a bar, and last night it was announced that the space would include a full kitchen, meeting space and a separate space for shows along with it being a bar.

Not only is the Mark the oldest gay bar in the state of Indiana, but is in fact older than the Stonewall riots of 1969. It was even mentioned that its founding in 1968 would even give it the status as the second oldest gay bar in the United States. The new owners have previously described the place as not just a bar. “It’s been a refuge, a family room, and a home for so many of us.” Ryder Martz last night told the crowd “we want this rebuilt by our community.”
