MUNCIE, Ind. — Young Deputy Prosecutor Maricel Driscoll has announced her intent to run for Delaware County Circuit Court 5.
Driscoll, a Democrat, kicked off her campaign Thursday at the old North Church near Muncie’s downtown. More than 100 people came to hear Driscoll’s story of fighting for peace and justice in the community. Growing up in a military family, she spoke to the crowd about learning respect and integrity and talked about compassion and love. Driscoll graduated from Ball State University with an undergraduate degree, and later from the Thomas Cooley Law School in Michigan. Her career began as a deputy in the Indiana Attorney General’s office and was later hired on as a deputy in the Delaware County Prosecutor’s Office in the last decade.
Active in the community, Driscoll serves on the Center Township Advisory Board besides boards for Open Door Health Services, Drug Prevention Council and Child Abuse Prevention.
Several prominent Democrats including party chairman Andrew Dale attended the event. Dale was excited to see Democrats already coming forward for the midterm election in 2026. He described Driscoll as passionate and dedicated with her public service. If successful, Driscoll would succeed previous Democratic judge, Thomas Cannon Jr., who was first elected in 2008. She also would be the latest prosecutor to sit on a local court bench. Local Judges Andrew Ramerez, Doug Mawhorr and Judi Calhoun were once prosecutors.
