ATV Trails at Prairie Creek Expected to be Shut Down in August

MUNCIE, Ind. — It was decided at the Muncie Parks Department meeting, held last night at City Hall, that ATV trails and horse trails will be shut down August 1st.

While Indiana American Water, the water company that Muncie leases the property from, asked that the closure be done by the end of the year, Brad Marshall asked that the board make a decision promptly. The closing of the ATV and horse trails has to do with the west side of the property being a wildlife preservation area and the City of Muncie not following the lease agreement.

There will also be a suspension in 2026 of the camp lottery. During the same meeting the livestream feed cut off 33 minutes into the meeting, just after Kellie McClellan gave the Prairie Creek report for the evening.

The news comes after water quality tests were done by Indiana American Water, allowing Prairie Creek to be reopened in early July after levels of cyanobacteria had dropped.
