MUNCIE, Ind. — On Thursday the Muncie/Delaware County Senior Center announced that staffing for the Center is temporarily gone.

Due to a delay for a federal grant by the SCSEP (Senior Community Services Employment Program), their contracted staff could be gone anywhere between “a few weeks or possibly months” according to Executive Director Julie Meares. Other state agencies and 19-non profit organizations are also being impacted, with July 1 being the last day the funding can be used.

Upcoming scheduled events will not be impacted however Edie’s Boutique and Thrift, a store inside the Center, will be closed temporarily. A push for volunteer recruitment started in recent months, during which time people at the Center could foresee the problem ahead, however the official news about the SCSEP funding being unavailable was announced to the Center last Thursday. Close to a handful of people have offered to volunteer and donations will be used to hire permanent employees.

The Senior Center has more information on volunteering online and can be emailed at muncieseniorcenter@gmail.com.
