MUNCIE, Ind. — Last Wednesday afternoon it was announced that EMS Chief Wesley Miller had been fired by the City of Muncie. The news comes after Miller had been charged for domestic battery and was arrested on May 27.

Prior to news on June 4 the 35 year old had been put on administrative leave the day after a warrant was issued for his arrest. According to WISH-TV: “Miller is charged out of Jay County with two felony offenses, domestic battery in the presence of a minor under 16 and illegally entering a home. Court documents say that when Miller entered the home of his ex-wife he had a partially-visible handgun tucked into his waist. They also say he sent threatening texts prior to the incident.” Miller was first appointed to the position in December 2022.

The news also comes after a similar situation one year ago in which firefighter Jordan Dulaney was also arrested for domestic battery, leading many to worry about the state of public safety in Muncie. Like in the case with Miller the Fire department also made sure to clarify that the charges were unrelated to his duties.

In a press release by the City of Muncie and a statement by Mayor Dan Ridenour, it was noted that the decision was not made lightly. No further details are known about interim leadership before a new replacement is found. Names mentioned for his replacement are only speculation at this point.
